Sandcatch, branding
Logo, logomark, and other materials for a startup in the Stavanger region working on separating sediment from waste.

This was a freelance branding project completed in the summer of 2020. The brief was to create a logo and graphic identity for the company, as well as business cards and a suggestion for a website layout. The client wanted something clean and fresh, which evoked the environmental and tech aspects of the company.
Sandcatch is working on technology designed to separate sediment from waste before being sent to biogas and waste processing plants, which makes operations at those plants more efficient.
I started by working on the logos, especially focusing on logomarks. The drafts on the left were the first round of ideas presented to the client. The feedback I received was that they wanted a more serious and mature logo, since they were a new company and unsure of how they wanted to market themselves in the future.
The next set of logos was more typographic, focusing on finding a fresh font, then adapting individual glyphs to increase visual interest. These were more in line with what the client was wanting, and they chose the "All round gothic" font option.

This was used as the primary logo (shown below), and focus was then shifted to the logo layout variations, logomarks, and the business card and website designs.

One feature of the logomark is that the "c" is that it is not perfectly circular (as shown on the left below). Keeping it circular was too tense and rigid, and was too geometric compared to the rest of the logotype. It was squashed ever so slightly to appear more organic and grounded, and the gap was larger than the original quarter slice.

The business cards were made mostly as a use case for how the brand colors and logos look in context. The website design was also made as a placeholder, since the only content the client had to display was contact information. It was made in wordpress, and has since been changed.
The final draft for both of these items is shown on the right.
